Simpsonville
Simply Home — The Heart of the Golden Strip
Life in Simpsonville
Simpsonville was incorporated on August 13, 1901, and named after Peter Simpson — a Laurens County farmer who ran the local blacksmith shop and served as postmaster. What started as a small crossroads town has grown into one of the fastest-expanding cities in South Carolina, with an estimated population approaching 28,000. The Simpsonville Clock Tower, built in 1987, anchors the downtown and has become the city's defining landmark.
Sitting at the center of the "Golden Strip" — the growth corridor connecting Mauldin, Simpsonville, and Fountain Inn — the city benefits from exceptionally low unemployment (around 3.1%) driven by a diverse industrial base including H.B. Fuller, KEMET, Sealed Air, and Milliken. Interstate 385 runs along the western edge, putting downtown Greenville 14 miles to the northwest and Columbia 89 miles to the southeast.
Simpsonville's motto is "Simply Home" and it lives up to it. The city balances suburban convenience with genuine community character. Heritage Park hosts concerts, festivals, and the weekly farmers market. Main Street has seen steady reinvestment with locally owned restaurants and shops. Fun fact: in October 2018, a $1.6 billion Mega Millions winning ticket was sold right here at the KC Mart on US-276.
