Five Forks
The Upstate's Premier Family Suburb
Life in Five Forks
Five Forks takes its name from a historic conflux of five roads — Woodruff, Batesville, Scuffletown, Bennetts Bridge, and Five Forks Road — that converge in eastern Greenville County. The area was rural farmland well into the early 1990s before rapid development transformed it into one of the most desirable suburbs in South Carolina. Niche.com ranked it the #1 best place to live in the state in 2019.
Today, Five Forks is a thriving community of nearly 18,000 residents — more than doubling its population since 2000. Located 11 miles east of downtown Greenville, it offers the ideal suburban formula: excellent schools, safe neighborhoods, abundant shopping and dining along the Woodruff Road corridor, and easy interstate access. The community is overwhelmingly family-oriented, with over 53% of households including children.
The area has matured beyond pure residential sprawl. A 2021 county-adopted area plan now governs future development, prioritizing environmental protection, tree preservation, commercial design standards, and controlled growth. Five Forks residents actively shaped this plan, reflecting a community that cares deeply about maintaining quality of life as growth continues.
